Ignition leads.

I need to replace my ignition leads as they are showing signs of arching at the bends.
Anyway these are a known weakness in the V6 Astina and as such I want to upgade but to what my dearies to what?

I have seen a few companies advertise their stuff very well been all ready to order and then nup don't make them for the V6. and so the cycle starts again.

Firstly has anyone already upgraded their V6 Leads?
Does anyone know who can supply improved Ignition leads for the V6?

I am interested in the V6 but i am sure some 4 cyl people are interested in upgrading so all comments welcome

<< Moved to performance >>

Have you tried Top Gun Leads?? They should be suitable replacement leads for your needs.

Regards

Splitfire: Don't have them
NGK: Don't stock them currently looking into making them contacted me about 20 mins after I put in the query.

What's that Skip? hehehe

I need a set of leads as well very shortly (like between now and Xmas preferably) so you might want to mention that to NGK??

I had Repco price a set for me but they didn't tell me if they were available or not.

I've heard bad words about TopGun leads from Tony but had them on my old Bluebird years ago and they seemed to work without any hassles.

I've used Top Gun lead in many different applications and never had a problem. Just got a set for my brothers EL falcon the other day as the new turbo setup had it leaking constantly. The Top Gun's worked excellently!

You could always try Ford or Mazda. The original lasted around 8 years so dollar for dollar that's not too bad. It's been my experience that aftermarket leads don't have half the life of the factory ones.
I was lucky once when I dropped into a Nissan dealer they had a set of factory 8mm in the sale bin for $20, that was what I went in for anyway so saved money and got the better product

That's a good point Cosmo, I didn't think of the longevity factor. I got quoted around $220 for a set of leads both from Mazda and Repco about 12 months ago.

Spoke to Splitfire………… Success!!!!!!!!

They will make up a set of the twin core 7mm leads for the V6 costing about 150. They are in Rhodes so I can pickem up.
Lifetime warranty, can’t ask much better.
This is a standard price if we get a lot of interest I could ask for a Group Buy Discount but at the moment just grateful to have an option.

“OK FOUND THE MODEL & ENGINE WE HAVEN'T MADE A SET YET BUT I CAN GET A
SAMPLE SET TO MAKE FROM, BUT CAN NOT MAKE THEM WITH 8.8 MM DIAMETER LEAD ONLY CAN DO WITH OUR 7.0 MM TWIN CORE LEAD THERE WILL BE NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR THIS.
THE LEADS ALSO COME WITH A LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY IE FOR AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE CAR. THEY WILL TAKE ABOUT SEVEN WORKING DAYS TO BE MADE UP COST IS $148.50 AUS DOLLARS PLUS FREIGHT”

Told him I would place an order on Thursday or so,

Anyone else in?

Lemme know.

Anyone got a dead set of V6 leads the guy a splitfire wants them to get some specs etc.
Save him time as finding a dead set of leads could take a while, if not, not an issue just have to wait a little bit longer.

If you want to buy a set PM me,

define 'limited lifetime warranty"

the limited bit bothers me (just as a general consumer), as no set of leads lasts the lifetime of a car (assuming the car is kept by the orig owner)...

for those in brisbane you definately need to go to QLD ignition leads in kallangar... these guys have been doing it for years and know what there on about.... i'm running 10.5mm on my engine and they cost me $150 bucks... or 130 if i only wanted 8mm... all custom made, no off the shelf crap...

Lifetime usually means the lifetime that the purcharser of the leads owns that particular car...

Was that for three or four cylinders?
